Cat Care Tips

While the subject of cat care is a popular one with cat lovers, there is a lot that goes into the grooming of your feline friend. Many cat owners do not realize the value that their cat puts into good grooming, and the benefits to you as the pet owner is immeasurable. Your cat will look good, feel good, and be more active as well as being more comfortable with you and other family members.

The first step in cat care is being sure that the cat is kept clean and dry at all times. A cat that is constantly dirty will pick up the scent of another animal as well as dirt and grime from itself, which can result in illnesses in both animals. To keep your cat clean, use a soft brush to groom it on a regular basis. Brushing your cat each time it will help reduce hair loss, keep it from being stressed, and help prevent matting.

Next, make certain that your cat gets at least one type of vitamin a day. Most veterinarians recommend that cats be given a dietary supplement with feline vitamins once or twice a week. This helps your feline friend stay healthy and happy. If your veterinarian has given you a suggested daily allowance of vitamins, be sure to follow his or her recommendations carefully. Three times a week is a good amount.

After a cat has been weaned from its mother, it will need to be exposed to a few changes in its routine. The most important part of cat care is to take your new cat for a walk on a regular basis. Kittens need to get used to the idea that they should not be allowed free-range in the beginning because they are still learning the rules of the house.

Adult cats should have water dishes that are dishwasher-resistant. They do not, however, need to have human water bottles or dishes. A few cats do have preference for water dishes over food dishes, so this issue may come up if you are changing adult cat’s water dishes but are only feeding them dry food. The only real problem is that a cat will naturally try to eliminate where it knows it shouldn’t, so it may make a mess on your new table legs. To avoid this, place a few bowls of water near the water bowl feeder in your cat’s room.

An important part of cat care is keeping your cat’s litter box clean. There are several different types of litter on the market, but you should stick with natural litters such as cotton or hemp. These materials are non-toxic and biodegradable. You also want to change your cat’s litter box at least once a week, but if your cat seems to have a high need to use its litter box, it could be due to stress or an accident. Once you find out the source of the problem, you can address the issue appropriately.

If your cat seems to have issues with elimination, you may want to use a medicated catnip or hypo allergenic catnip powder to help ease any frustrations. Cats can be very sensitive when it comes to their body odor and many experience a extremely hard time eliminating when using artificial litters or a litter box. powders work very well to help reduce the odor and getting your cat to eliminate in the proper location can take much of the frustration out of trying to get rid of waste in the litter box.

In summary, there are numerous ways that you can train your cat to prevent indoor accidents from occurring. Some of these involve changing the diet of your cat, offering more catnip toys, grooming your pets, and consulting your veterinarian for potential health concerns. As with any disease, prevention is the key.  We hope these cat care tips will help you take care of your feline friend. If you have any questions or concerns about your pet’s health, you should consult your veterinarian.
